Let me introduce ourselves we are Bruce & Megan Gordon and we live on a delightful rural property in Tasman, about 40 minutes drive from Nelson city. The following is my story about how I was “bitten by the Birman Bug”: Well that time came in July 2005, Bruce contacted Shingalana Birmans to enquire about a pet. We went to their property just inland from of Nelson, viewed Chocolates, Blues but decided on a personality-plus Seal Point female. I named her Coco. She was the ‘melt you heart’ cat of my life. I thought she was stunning in nature, temperament, colour, expressions and playfulness. To me she was just purrfect! But in February 2006 I had to pick her up off the middle of the road. It broke my heart. She looked perfect with the tinniest trickle of blood from her mouth. She was all soft, her body was still warm. I cried for days and days. Just typing this brings fresh tears. So several empty weeks pass, with no life in our house. No uplifting joy in my days. No cheeky Birman walking across my keyboard as I’m on the internet or typing a letter. Coco had left a huge hole in our lives. Bruce suggested I contact the breeder and enquire if perhaps I could get...two Birmans. So after meeting with Shingalana breeders I discovered their situation was changing with a move into suburbia and more restricted spaces likely for their family. We all had a coffee and a chat with the outcome: Bruce and I would purchase their Birman breeding programme of two entire females and two entire males. For me the final decider was one of the girls was a full Chocolate sister of my beloved Coco. I was totally smitten by Birmans! Since launching into the world of Birmans we have registered with N.Z.C.F (New Zealand Cat Fancy) under the prefix ABSOLUTE, we have visited a number of other Birman Breeders in Australia and it is with huge appreciation Lesley Freeman of El Dorato Cattery in Victoria is letting one of her breeding Queens El Dorato Panache (Seal Point) as well as a young stud; El Dorato Tuscany Gold (Chocolate Point) cross the Tasman Sea to take up residence in our Nelson paradise. Earlier this year Ron Brignall bred Tolora Eizablu and I am thankful he has allowed her to join in my breeding programe. She is a stunning wee Seal girl with beautiful eyes who in the future will produce beautiful kittens with my stud boys. During my journey learning all about Birman genes and bloodlines I have discovered there are two avenues; the coloured lines which carry dilute (Chocolate Point & Lilac Point ) and the straight lines (cats in their pedigree only carry Seal Point or Blue Point). So in 2008 I have made the decision to pursue both those lines. Monty is my straight stud boy and I am grateful to Rosemary & Barry Wilson who have introduced me to Carma. She is to become my future straight Queen, with the simply stunning Gd Db Gr Ch Shinoto Zante as her father I have huge hopes for their straight offspring possibly early in 2009. So that my fellow Birman lovers is our story of becoming enthralled with the Birman Cats, so I would suggest you watch this space for more on ABSOLUTE Birmans! We offer our kittens to approved, loving homes. |
