Let me introduce ourselves we are Bruce & Megan Gordon and we live on a delightful rural property in Tasman, about 40 minutes drive from Nelson city. Our house is one of only six on a quiet country road. In 2005 I purchased my first Birman, 'Coco' she was the melt-your-heart-cat of your life. A pursonality-plus Seal Point. To me she was everything; playful, smoochy, mischievious. Just adorable. Sadly I picked her up off the middle of the road when she was only 6 months old. It broke my heart. I cried for days and days. She had left a huge hole in our household. So in 2006 I began breeding my beloved Birmans. I built secure enclosures for them with inside/outside facilities. The had trees and stumps and grass. Everything I thought a cat wanted. During late 2008 my beloved Dazzle showed me exactly what Birmans are truely after; human company. Then followed a huge 'guilt trip', here I had been keeping my beloved Birmans away from our house, (I couldn't have the boys up here as they sprayed to mark their territory and only 2 or 3 of the girls were compatible with each other; also very protective of their territory) when in fact all they truely adored was to be loved and petted and smooched at every opportunity. All my girls gave birth here in the house and all the kittens were also raised amongst the usual household noise and activity. A definate MUST for well socialilsed kittens. So I made the decision to cease breeding, find fabulous homes for my girls and boys and 2 or 3 of them would become members of my family living upstairs with us. This was all ideal and we had a stunning summer with Birmans wandering around sniffing everyuthing insight, playing with the moths and bringing in 'treasures' to show us of their deeds! However yet another of my beautiful Birmans, Carma was picked up off that bloomin rural road on 13 May and yesterday 27 September my fabulous SDouble Grand Champion Dazzle also had his life cut short on the road. More tears and heartbreak. How can any driver NOT see a white Birman on the road and either slow down or beep to scare them? I am soo sad, another stunning Birman leaves my life... If you have found my website looking for a Birman to adopt the above is the reason why I am no longer breeding. I urge you to follow your heart and find yourself a Birman who has been raised in the house as a kitten and has been accustomed to regular handling and as kittens they should come towards you looking for attention and smooches. This website has also been removed from the NZCF website - at my request - do look in there for all cat breeders throughout New Zealand, check their websites, ask questions and visit their environment for Birmans - remembering Birmans adore peopel company.
